Two 90-year-old women, Bertha and Betty, had been friends all of their lives.

When it was clear that Bertha was dying, Betty visited her every day.

One day Betty said, 'Bertha, we both loved playing softball all our lives, and we played all through high school. Please do me one favor: when you get to heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's women's softball there.'

Bertha looked up at Betty from her deathbed and said, 'Betty, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor for you.'

Shortly  after that, Bertha passed on.

A few nights later, Betty was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, 'Betty, Betty.'

'Who  is it', asked Betty, sitting up suddenly. 'Who is it?'

'Betty -- it's me, Bertha.'

'You're not Bertha. Bertha just died.'

'I'm telling you, it's me, Bertha,' insisted the voice.

'Bertha! Where are you?'

'In heaven,' replied Bertha. 'I have some really good news and a little bad news.'

'Tell me the good news first,' said Betty.

'The good news,' Bertha said, 'is that there's women's softball in heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before me are here, too. Even better than that, we're all young again. Better still, it's always Springtime and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play softball all we want, and we never get tired.'

'That's fantastic,' said Betty. 'It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what's the bad news?'

'You're pitching Tuesday.'

I find it amazing that what one individual may look at as bad news could be someone elses gift.

I once took a class on divine healing and learned that divine healing comes in all different manners;

  •  It could be a peace in ones circumstance, in knowing it is all in God’s hands and giving it up to him.

  • It could be in that divine healing and being able to share the miracle of what God has done for you and could do for them also. Being free…

  • Or that true freedom and healing...joining your heavenly father in Heaven. No more pain or suffering, just peace.

Working with individuals in a memory care unit, I see every day the fear and confusion. I have had many days in which one of my residents express their desire for God to take them home. All I know to tell them is, “ Apparently God is not done with you yet. You may not still be here for yourself, but instead for someone else, it could be a family member, friend, another resident, as far as I know, they could be here for me.”

I also usually also here, “I am useless, not doing any good for anyone,” and I remind them how much joy they bring me in each day, that they are an earthbound angel God brought to help me through the day.”

I remind them that I am an earthbound angel also, that God brought to them today to kick them out of bed, ”Come join me in some of the activities I have planned for the day so it goes by faster. Let’s have some fun together .”

1 Corinthians 15:58 -- So then, my dear friends, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.

Psalm 92:14 --  They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; One of my pastors always boasted, "I'm fat." He then explained not in the sense of body weight, but using the word F.A.T. as an acronym - Faithful-Available-Teachable.

Job 12:12 -- Wisdom is with aged men, With long life is understanding.

Isaiah 46:4 -- Even to your old age, I shall be the same, And even to your graying years I shall bear you! I have done it, and I shall carry you; And I shall bear you, and I shall deliver you.

God has given us earthbound angels to walk beside us in our life; a child, a friend, a senior citizen, an animal. We were all created to be earthbound angels in this life on this earth.

You may be the only example of God someone may ever see...
